I think the scientific argument is well and truly won – not necessarily against sugar and fat (which is what is in play here), but a pretty comprehensive study of the harm caused by drugs was done here, and several illegal drugs (cannabis and ecstasy for sure, I think cocaine as well) came out safer than alcohol and tobacco.

To get any movement on this issue we need a convincing political argument. That's pretty difficult to come up with when there's such a good doublethink going on whereby politicians who used drugs at college play the squeaky-clean card when they grow up.
