... because internet connections are not 100%. If I lose my internet for half a day, or take my computer somewhere where there is no connection, I don't want to be unable to do anything. Quite apart from the trust issue of posting confidential stuff on someone else's server (we mostly email or otherwise send stuff across the Internet already), there are huge issues with reliablity and bandwidth.
