Google to use page loading speed in rankings

Matt Cutts of Google writes (in an overly apologetic post): "Google incorporating site speed in search rankings." It was added as one of over 200 "signals of quality" that Google uses to rank sites in web searches. Faster-loading pages could mean your site gets a boost in the ranking. Cutts did say, however, that only 1% of sites would have their rankings effected by this addition.

I saw this one coming last year... both Google and Yahoo have been very vocal about page loading speed. I think it's a great addition, as load speed is a quality issue for internet users. There will probably be a lot of people sprouting up advertising their service as a "web site speed optimizer" now.
