The 1st Amendment guarantees individual rights to freedoms of speech, religion, assembly, press, and petition. The 2nd Amendment guarantees individual right to keep and bear arms.
Both protect the rights of citizens. The notion that they are somehow different -- "apple and oranges" as you put it -- is nothing more than anti-gunners attempting to frame it that way so that they can circumvent that pesky little fact.
