well, that's sorta why....

i don't mind the questions because i've already thought about them, and they're decent questions to ask.

purpose in life, for instance - why wouldn't one wonder? like your other questions, and many you didn't ask [or haven't asked yet], it's something i hope everyone asks at some point or another, or many points, for many reasons.

some questions, as i've said, i've thought about and decided that knowing the answer wouldn't change how i live, or how i try to live, or decisions and attitudes, etc. it's sort of interesting to wonder what sort of being created the universe as i understand it, but to me it has the same importance as wondering what it would be like to meet gandalf or mike from stranger in a strange land. that sorta thing.

some questions i have decided i want to answer, at least temporarily - maybe i'll change my mind later, given more experience of this thing we sort of call "existence"....but it's what i've got.

What do you see as your purpose in life? Is it just to have fun and enjoy yourself while you're alive?

yup. it's as good an answer as i've gotten to. but don't confuse it with hedonism, at least not at first glance. hurting someone else needlessly, throwing a rock at a bird's nest, the entire spectrum. in a strictly utilitarian sense, it generally turns out worse for me personally when i do such things. it's also just....not fun. i don't enjoy it.

is it evolutionary? learned experience from those i've loved? a strictly logical, calculated response to my environment?

doesn't quite matter. yes, my purpose in life is to enjoy life. which gets extremely fucking complicated. i'm no mother theresa - i wouldn't be happy living her life. i'm no wall street CEO, i wouldn't be happy with that lifestyle either. i don't know exactly what would make me happy.....aside from the fact that i like trying to figure it out [i do know that i'd never be happy with stability].

What impact if any do you expect for your efforts after you're dead? Is this an important point for you or something moot? Why?

expect? not really much. it'd be nice to have the people i've liked and loved over my lifetime to remember me fondly. i'd sort of like to leave some creation, something that came entirely from myself, behind me - probably part of my love for writing and recording music comes from that.

it's not moot, because it's part of enjoying my life while i'm living it. it's nice to think, as i'm playing, that other people enjoy what i'm creating for itself, not just because they want to be nice to me by complimenting. it's not overwhelmingly important, either. if i only focus on that, i'm losing out on the present. paying too much attention to what happens after you leave a room usually gets in the way of whatever you might get out of being in the room in the first place, right?
