except I read that the idea was adopted by early Christians in an effort to "convert" the use of eggs over from an earlier pre-existing pagan ritual about eggs falling from the sky as Baal the fertility god ascended without his testicles intact or something... like when he was on earth and killed they kept all the parts of him except that...
it was a long story... but it explained the egg thing a little.
